A Journal of the Plague Year

I happened upon the Signet Classic Trade Paperback of Daniel Defoe's A Journal of the Plague Year at a family yard sale.

I know of Defoe's other works, but had never heard of A Journal of the Plague Year! What a great story for Warhammer Fantasy Role Play players and gamemasters alike. Vivid descriptions of the city of London in squalor and gripped by terror from an unseen menace. If you're playing in, or running, a campaign where Nurgle cultists work behind the scenes, this book is a must read. The Thousand Thrones comes to mind; great fodder indeed.

The only thing it lacks is a map of London c. 1665 (just before the Great Fire) to follow the travels of the protagonist. Defoe weaves a great tale from which contemporary satirists the likes of Monty Python have borrowed from: the phrase Bring out your dead! and the I'm-not-dead-yet plague sufferer are scenes taken directly from A Journal of the Plague Year.

A Journal of the Plague Year is public domain and available from Amazon on your Kindle (for FREE! including delivery) or at Project Gutenberg.
