A score minus seven days (and counting)

NatGeo has a feature article this month about Chernobyl (or Chornobyl in independent Ukraine). It really has almost been twenty years since the day of the Chernobyl accident (April 26, 1986).

Not one to make light of the disaster, or the anniversary, but the subject reminds me of any one of many parties1 I attended during my “higher education” and the featured drink at many: The Chernobyl. Basically, an over charged margarita served, communally, in a large (and I'm pretty sure unique) mushroom cloud shaped glass. The name, of course inspired by the disaster, was rooted in the idea that a sip of Chernobyl, so spiked with a variety of alcohols not meant to be mixed, could knock you off your feet and leave a legacy of irreparable genetic damage.

meta-footnote-1=The “Chernobyl” made an appearance at a number of late 80s New Year’s parties hosted by the owner of Dragonware Hobbies, a comic/gaming/model shop, and in attendance was the tight social network of friends of, and gamers from, Dragonware Hobbies. Good times… good times indeed. meta-footnote-2=What has wings and glows? Chicken Kiev (Kyiv). Kyiv, Ukraine is about 70 southeast of the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.

WebLogic on my iMac G5

Yes. Read that again.

WebLogic on my iMac G5.

Download the install JAR for AIX/PPC. Install. Configure your application for your environment. Badda Bing. I just deployed my employer’s (a financial institution) very complex application, editing only my CLASSPATH, the WL configuration (via the WL console in Safari no less). Yeah, some noise in the logs about performance pack falling back to Java I/O, but this is WL “out-of-the-box.” I love it.

Some specs: WL 8.1SP5. Java 1.4.2_09 (VM build 1.4.2-54, mixed mode). Mac OS X 10.4.6.

Yes, others are doing it, but none have described the process “out-of-the-box”. I can say it works exactly that way.

I’m not endorsing WL on the Mac for production, no, this is strictly a development enviroment endorsement.
