He returns to Bretonnia with two men-at-arms and only five loyal peasant servants, the rest dead or deserted in the Empire. Joans' once large entourage of 10 men-at-arms and a score of attendants is now only a tent, comfortable and sturdy, if frayed, faded and muddy. Two wagons of equipment and the spoils of war, 4 draft horses, mounts for his seven men and his destrier Verdeant.
Sir Mendy's journey back to Bretonnia was "funded" by a wealthy merchant of the Empire plying the trade route from Middenheim to Helmgart. While offering his steel to Johannes Grissman on his return to his homeland, he met the heroes, hired to bring the blessings of Sigmar and provide more steel in the face of dangers on the roads.
And danger they faced down. Joans, and Johannes, were grateful for the bow and skills provided by Ravendil, the bravery and leadership of the dwarf, and the prayers and hammer of the priest. Facing down zealots, greenskins and a stampeding horde of Beastmen, the caravan lost very little life or goods.
Joans will return a hero for his service as an Knight Errant, but he will return too as a Knight of the Realm, though he is not sure from whom he will be granted land or service on his return. Though he knows he will command respect for he is destined for true glory as a Grail Knight of Bretonnia.
During the final leg of his return, Sir Mendy was plagued by nightmares of a cataclysm visited upon Bretonnia: pitch clouds of black rained ash over all of Bretonnia as columns of great fires burned in Athel Loren. Confiding his nightmares in Ravendil over ale in Helmgart, Sir Joans and Ravendil were met by Erlaen Shadowstar and Eldril, a Damsel of the Lady.
Lending credence to Mendy's nightmares, Erlaen Shadowstar and Eldril saw that a great danger faced the elves of all lands, and especially the noble wood elves of Athel Loren. In studying their own dreams, nightmares and magical cognition for warning signs, they knew a darkness hid in the Old World, scheming in silence. While they could not truly know the source, or the bearers, of this danger they spoke of the Druchii and that their own dreams revealed a sign would hang in the skies over Bretonnia with the appearance of Morrslieb.
Eldril charged Sir Joans Mendy to return to Bretonnia as a Champion for the Lady, and to lead as a brave hero.
Joans Mendy waited for the heroes to return from the obligation of the dwarf in the Grey Mountains. He prays to the Lady of the Lake almost every waking hour of the day, denying himself food or falling asleep on his knees before an icon of the Lady in his tent. He then led them deep into Bretonia to the city of Bordeleaux, where the adventure continues.
